If you're looking for something a little different for your wedding cake have you thought about changing up the structure and moving away from the traditional 'stacked' wedding cake design? We've rounded up some alternatives to the tiered cake to give you some inspiration.
Who says it even has to be cake shaped - go for something really unusual with a 3D cake in the shape of anything other than a wedding cake. We created this Aston Martin cake complete with the happy couple for an intimate Dorset wedding. This is a great option if you have a fun wedding theme or you want to make sure that your day has plenty of personality.
Instead of having one big cake you could go for individually portioned mini cakes. These give you a lot of flexibility in how you display them and lend a relaxed feel to the whole cake thing with guests helping themselves. These rainbow coloured love heart mini cakes were created for a same-sex marriage full of fun and bright colours.
If you'd like to keep a loose tiered effect but change it up a little then 'floating' tiers are a great option acheived through the use of a special stand. We used this to great effect with this very usual animal wedding cake we created for a couple who were both exotic animal vets. You don't have to go this cray-cray though, this style works equally as well with a more traditional cake.
If you'd like a real feast and a mash up of different types of cake then a dessert table is ideal for you. You can really go to town using different things to display your cakes on depending on the theme of your day as well as using differnt types of cakes. This vintage style dessert table contains everything from a traidtional white cake with flowers to traybakes, naked cakes, meringues and sweeties. Tie the style together by using a shared colour palette or similar materials such as the burlap, lace and kraft paper used here.
If you've got some alternative ideas for your wedding cake structure we'd love to have you along to one of our free tasting days to chat about your day - you can book yourself in right here on our Cake Tasting Appointment calendar.
